Pyon Moo Do
The Warrior Path of Transformation
The curriculum at Traditional Martial Arts Academy of Austin has been created by our head instructor, James Espy. With sixteen years of training, study and teaching in martial arts, he created Pyon Moo Do to train even the beginner to become a powerful martial artist. Though he has love and respect for all of his teachers and systems of study, he felt that there was a need to create something that reflected his understanding of martial arts and how it is learned. Pyon Moo Do is rooted in traditional Korean martial arts, but informed by Mr. Espy’s experience in Filipino, Japanese, Chinese and Brazilian styles, using an approach to training that provides access to the tradition of classical martial arts schools, with the application and effectiveness of modern self defense. We share with our students an appreciation for the beauty of the martial arts, but offer clarity in underlying principles and help to distinguish between art and application.
James Espy
Mr. Espy is an Austin native who began his training in 1991. He received a second degree black belt in Tukong Moosul and title of Sa Bum Nim (Head Instructor) from Grandmaster Wonik Yi.
